It’s snowing. I cant help but think of a long ago event that this mirrors so perfect, in such an contrary way…A volcano has just erupted…thousands of ashes are raining down upon the earth. Recollection of a Pompeii tragedy. The more ashes that envelop the ground, the less people you see on the street, outside, anywhere.
Everyone is acting like it’s the end of the world, like some Armageddon broadcast has informed the people that the end is soon arriving. The people are in a panic…running around, Rushing frantically for supplies….and all the while the ashes accumulate.
It’s kind of like some superior being is trying to obliterate the mess we have made of this place. Ice age Noah and an automobile ark, with two of everything, from every grocery store shelf , stocked safely in some paper bag… secured in the back of some fancy SUV treading down a colorless road.
Snow…a suburban silencing. Chaos of everyday lives put on hold. Oddly enough, the whole white world becomes a living Christmas card.
Maybe it even forces cliché Christmas traditions onto the people. Stranding everyone in their houses, perhaps around a fire, the whole family in one place. Even the yelling, bitching, and whining seem to be silenced. One step outside, and its still the same. Every sound is eerily absorbed by the cocaine colored mounds that cover the ground.
The opposite of amphetamine…not the twitchy, nervous, hypertension atmosphere. I’m talking about a valium powder playground. Relaxation from every angle. Even the ADD children of America have fallen into this slow motion, January production.
But all the while the ashes are falling.
